Greek government

          Before the Dark Age, Greece was ruled by kings. During the Dark Age, kings shared power with rich people. After the Dark Ages, cities were ruled by tyrants. Tyrants taught that if the citizens united behind a leader they got power.

            Athens made the first Democracy by running their tyrant out of town. A council of 500 citizens each chosen at random gathered to make new laws.They were paid so that everyone could be on the council. An assembly of all of Athens met every nine days to decide upon the laws.They were paid so everyone could be on the council.
